Working hard

We had a super busy week last week, we essentially have a morning and afternoon physio session, but a lot of the day includes feeding and trying to provide some stimulation as well, so we have also tried to hang some pictures and balloons in from of the immobile children to give them some visual stimulation and we also play a lot of One Direction, I do not know what it is but the kids love it, and we love it to because it makes the kids very compliant! Haha, honestly, we try and try and try to make Giang roll, no deal! We hold some One D on the Ipod near her, boom! She is reaching and boogying like crazy.

Diep has a significant tick, but he really loves music, it makes stretching fun, can't you tell? Haha

Whilst trying to encourage some backwards walking for glute strengthening, one thing led to another and a full blown tug of war eventuated.

Whatever works!

Hue also stole my camera, so I came across a number of interesting selfies.

Here is a picture of one of our major successes! This time last week Huong was sliding out of her wheelchair because her lower back was rigid into extension, look at her sitting up like a Queen! You go girl.

We also had a visit on Wednesday from a group from Samsung, they came to help do some cleaning and meet the children, it was a bit strange because all the Samsung ladies were bawling their eyes out, it kind of made us realise that actually this is going to be very hard to leave. Emotionally it is a bit tough, but I think the fact that we don't feel completely helpless makes the difference, and although the children have some major disabilities, the Sisters really love them and try so hard, that's why we are convinced that by teaching the Sisters what to do the kids will continue to benefit long after we go home.

Handsome Khang was quite the ladies man, he was personally feed about 3 packs of biscuits.
To give you a bit more perspective, Khang is actually 18, so his developments physically is quite poor.

Pretty happy to receive some biscuits and socks!

The girls will never pass up an opportunity to perform

Huong is stoked with her new socks!

Nhi ate so many cookies she went a bit hyper (p.s. aren't they the coolest pants ever)

So I got surprise attacked!

The afternoon was spent sweeping and chasing flies

Attack of the sugared children!

 Afternoon of giggles

Lots of squats for Kim Chi

We were also a bit scared this week as two of the very immobile children were quite sick. Huong seems to be recovering well and although she puked on Robyn a couple of times (heheheh) her breathing has improved after getting her up into different positions to help her lungs.

 Robyn and Huong

Hoa (15y.o.) however hasn't been recovering as well, he had a very high temperature so we haven't been able to work with him very much, but he is propped up on a wedge to help his lungs. He is completely immobile but is lucky to have lots of helpful kids around to help him have dinner.

We rewarded the girls with some bubbles for working so hard!

Giang is a new recruit, she has changed a lot in her first two weeks though and is starting to interact more with us and the children, her body is quite flaccid and she usually spent all day lying down, so to have her sitting up in a chair is a big step for her! She loves being able to see the other kids and listen to music though.
And here she is learning to reach and grasp (potato chips are excellent motivation) even though she ignores her right side and has not learnt how to swallow very well yet (the chips are mainly slobbered on until they are soggy enough to swallow), we are hoping she will make more improvements.

Anyway, I hope you find this interesting! Email me if you want to know about anything in particular (hollymccabe@live.com) x
